RTTOV Platforms Supported

Platforms and instruments supported by RTTOV

This page is only updated at the time of each RTTOV release. Coefficients for new sensors are not tied to software releases and are made available as soon as they are ready. Check the coefficients download page to see if new platforms/sensors not listed below are supported.

Table 1: Platforms supported by RTTOV as of November 2022.
Platforms in italics are not yet supported in the latest RTTOV distribution but can be requested.

Table 2: Instruments supported by RTTOV as of November 2022.
Sensors in italics are not yet supported in the latest RTTOV distribution but can be requested, as can coefficients for sensors not listed here.
“IR/MW only” refers to coefficient files supporting channels at wavelengths above 3μm;
“UV/VIS/NIR/IR” refers to coefficient files containing ultraviolet/visible/near-IR channels, possibly in addition to IR channels. Note that the v13 predictors support solar radiation so by default these coefficient files include all channels (UV/VIS+IR) where relevant. However, IR-channel-only files are also available to aid users wishing to update from the old v7/8 predictor coefficients which do not support visible/near-IR channels.
* Channels 19-21 are only simulated accurately with Zeeman coefficient files.
The channel order in the coefficient files can be determined using the rttov_coef_info.exe executable (see Annex A in the RTTOV user guide), or by looking at the spectral response function and passband page where the linked page for each sensor shows the channel order in the coefficient file.
