    Hi,

The MODIS sensors are carried by the AQUA and TERRA satellites, formerly called “EOS PM-1” and “EOS AM-1”, respectively. However, all the RTTOV coefficient files for the MODIS sensor correspond to the so-called “eos_1” or “eos_2” satellites (e.g. “rtcoef_eos_1_modis.dat”, “scaercoef_eos_2_modis.dat”, etc).

I wonder if “eos_1” or “eos_2” represent “EOS AM-1” (TERRA) or “EOS PM-1” (AQUA). I could not find a document clearly discussing the names “eos_1” and “eos_2”. So it’s not clear to me which MODIS coefficient files are related to AQUA and which ones are related to TERRA.

    Regards,
    Amir

    Hi Amir,

In cases like this I recommend having a look in the ASCII coefficient file: the headers provide useful information. Under the “README_SPECTRAL_RESPONSE_FUNCTION” section it identifies the eos_1 file as TERRA and eos_2 file as AQUA.

    Best wishes,
    James

    Hi James,

Thanks. Also some README files containing the required information are given in the link below:
