    Dear RTTOV
    Hi.
    I am jun Shi. I am a doctoral student from China, and I am working on dust inversion. In my work, I need RTTOV to produce the clear sky gas optical depth. Is this possible? Or is there a accurate (acceptable) way to convert the output transmittance into optical thickness. I saw several functions related to optical depth in the SRC folder, but I don’t know how to call them, and these functions don’t seem to be designed for users. By the way, I am going to use the log function, I don’t know if it is correct. Please team members help me analyze the above problem, thank you. Any scripts or suggestions are especially appreciated! !
    Best wishes
    Jun Shi

    Dear Jun Shi,

    Optical depth is directly related to transmittance, so you can obtain this directly from the RTTOV transmittance outputs:

    optical_depth = -LOG(transmittance)

    where LOG is the natural logarithm.

    Best wishes,
    James
