jaycableParticipantHello,
I am wondering if support for the microwave instrument on AWS PFM will be added to AAPP.
Thanks!October 14, 2024 at 7:12 am #49934
Nigel AtkinsonModeratorHello,
Yes, this is planned. I have added a paragraph at https://nwp-saf.eumetsat.int/site/software/aapp/future-plans/

jaycableParticipantJust to follow up on this, we operate two direct broadcast antennas in Alaska, and the Alaska weather community is very interested in the data from AWS PFM. We are working with our antenna’s manufacturer to receive the DB signal and have some questions about what formats the processing software expects. What is the best way to ask these questions? Thanks!

Nigel AtkinsonModeratorJay,
Sorry, I didn’t see your question at the time. We are still waiting for ESA to provide a beta version of the level 1 processor for AWS PFM. We have a very old version from 2023 but I’m not sure how much it would help you.
I suggest you get in touch with Adam Dybbroe from the group in Sweden (SMHI) who have already set up their systems and are eagerly awaiting the first direct broadcast data from AWS.

Nigel AtkinsonModeratorUpdate: Direct broadcast from AWS PFM is still not activated. We expect this to happen in March, after initial evaluation of the global data has taken place. At the same time (i.e. March), the global data will be opened up for general distribution.

jaycableParticipantI am just following up to see if there are updates to AWS PFM. We eagerly await the direct broadcast data and I just wanted to check to see if there has been progress.
Thanks!May 6, 2025 at 8:12 pm #50638
Richard AnstettParticipantNigel,
Is there any AWS PFM direct broadcast news or Technical information anywhere? I can only find ESA publicity articles.
