Activities of the NWP SAF
|
The SAF is concerned with the NWP data assimilation process rather than
with generating geophysical parameters. Its main deliverables are software
packages for implementation at NWP centres within their data assimilation
schemes, or at EUMETSAT central processing facilities or at other SAFs. |
|
The work of the SAF is organized according to instrument type rather than
geophysical parameter. The current areas of work in the NWP SAF, and
the main deliverables defined for each, are:
- ATOVS (including AAPP)
- Improved and extended versions of AAPP updated for distribution
periodically
- Integrated monitoring and tuning reports
More about AAPP
- IASI (and other advanced sounders)
- Specification of NWP interface options for European users
- 'Day-1' processing system for IASI+AMSU+AVHRR through extension
of AAPP

- MVIRI/SEVIRI (and other geostationary imagery)
- Integrated monitoring report on satellite winds in NWP
- New/improved observation operators for satellite winds
- Geostationary radiance assimilation

- Scatterometers
- New/improved observation operators, pre-processing and retrieval
schemes, and quality control, for SCAT, ASCAT and SeaWinds
- Integrated monitoring report on scatterometer data in NWP
