#Contents of CD-ROM AAPP_V3.0 ################################################################################ # # # ATOVS and AVHRR Processing Package (AAPP) # # # ################################################################################ Some important notes on the current distribution of the AAPP package: 1. This distribution of AAPP (Version 3.0) integrates the versions 2.0 to 2.9, MAIA V2.1, bug corrections as described in the list of known bugs and problems on EUMETSAT's AAPP webpage (Note: Some portability problems might still require manual adaptation during the intallation process) and some additional improvements like upgrading the AAPP plot tool to plot not only ATOVS data but also TOVS data. 2. AAPP Version 3.0 contains all modules for the processing of TOVS and ATOVS data to level 1b, 1c and 1d data and for mapping AVHRR data onto the HIRS data grid. The file format has been adapted to the NOAA/NESDIS Level 1B specification for the NOAA-KLM series. Both TOVS and ATOVS modules have been tested with space based data. Examples from this are included in this distribution, with all necessary input data to conduct the same test and all output results to allow comparison with your own test. The sample files have been created on an HP9000 Workstation at EUMETSAT. 3. Due to lack of resources during the development, the focus has been on the development of the code. Thus some discrepancy may occur between the documented file definition in the design documents - frozen at a rather early stage - and the implemented file definition. 4. Any comments and proposals for improvements are welcome. Please use the EUMETSAT web page and the interface foreseen for feedback, which is provided there. The CD-ROM AAPP_V3.0 contains this readme file and the following nine directories: 1. AAPP_3/ contains the AAPP package version 3.0 including the software modules and the required data files. Information on how to install and run AAPP can be found in the README.INS file and in the Installation Guide in directory INSTGUID. 2. DOCS/ contains a set of AAPP documentation. File README.DOC provides more details. 3. HRPTDATA/ NOAA-14 (TOVS) and NOAA-16 (ATOVS) test input data. 4. INSTGUID/ contains the Installation Guide, HTML-formatted. File README.GID describes how to read the pages. 5. INST_LOG/ contains log and err files produced by the installation process and the file ENVIRON.INS that is a copy of the global variables file ATOVS_ENV produced in the ${HOME} directory by the installation process. 6. N14_LOG/ contains log and err files of the NOAA-14 chain run and its processing steps. 7. N14_OUT/ contains level 1b, 1c and 1d output files of the NOAA-14 chain run. 8. N16_LOG/ contains log and err files of the NOAA-16 chain run and its processing steps. 9. N16_OUT/ contains level 1b, 1c and 1d output files of the NOAA-16 chain run. Note: The CD-ROM burning software appends a version number ";1" (and ".;1" if the file name has no suffix) at the end of each file name. This appendix is not visible on most systems. If you can see it on your system then strip it off by renaming the files. Note: The names of the files on the AAPP V3 CD-ROM are with capital letters. Nevertheless, on some systems, it may happen that you see the names with small letters. Take this into account when following the instructions of the installation guide where the files are referenced with capital letters.
