- Personal information we may collect from you
We may collect and process the following data about you:
- Information that you provide by filling in forms and subscribing to the services available on the NWPSAF website.
- Information that you provide to us when you write to us (including by email and fax) or when we speak to you by telephone.
- Information that you provide to us by completing surveys.
- Details of your visits to the NWP SAF website and the resources you access to enable us to monitor and improve our service and to know which parts of the website are of most interest to users and visitors.

- We may use the above personal information about you in the following ways:
- to keep a record of which services you have requested and to deliver those services;
- to provide you with email updates about any NWP SAF deliverables you have requested and received, unless you have indicated that you do not wish to receive such updates;
- for statistical and review purposes, to monitor and improve the services provided by the NWP SAF;
- to carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us.
- We may provide your details to other members of the NWP SAF Consortium or to EUMETSAT or to individuals appointed by EUMETSAT to act in an official capacity in relation to the NWP SAF, for the purposes listed above.
- We do not sell or rent out personal information to any other organisations.
- Where we store and process your personal information
- The Met Office is responsible for the storage and processing of personal information you provide to the NWP SAF.
- We may use computers owned by third parties to host the NWP SAF website, including the online forms used to collect your details. Your information is sent to the Met Office for storage and processing by secure link and is not retained on those third party machines. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or equivalent secure technology with 256-bit AES encryption. (SSL is the industry standard method of encrypting personal information and credit card details so that they can be securely transferred over the Internet.)
- Your information may be transferred abroad, as described at 2.ii above.
- By submitting your personal information, you agree to this transfer, storing and processing.
Disclosure of your information
We may disclose your personal information to third parties:
- if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal information in order to comply with any legal obligation, or in order to enforce or apply our agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our users, or others
- in the ways mentioned elsewhere in this policy.
Access to your information and correction
Access to personal information which we may hold about you can be requested in writing to the Data Protection Officer at the address below or by sending an email to legal@metoffice.gov.uk.
We may require proof of identity in relation to any such request and may also make a small charge for this service.
