This document describes the installation of the ATOVS and AVHRR
Processing Package (AAPP), which has been developed and tested by
the AAPP project team in EUMETSAT's Numerical Weather Prediction
Satellite Application Facility (NWP SAF). The current version
supports the processing of (i) AVHRR, TOVS and ATOVS data from
the NOAA polar orbiting satellites, (ii) AVHRR, ATOVS and IASI data
from METOP, (iii) ATMS, CrIS and VIIRS from Suomi NPP, (iv) MWTS,
MWHS and IRAS from Fengyun-3.
1.2. Scope
The currently available software has been developed for UNIX and
Linux systems. It can be anticipated that every potential user will
be able to equip a computer, from workstation to PC, with a UNIX or
Linux system. Thus no other environment will be supported so far.
Users who want to adapt the software to other operating system
environments are obliged to do this without installation support.
The following is required for the installation of the main AAPP
modules:
UNIX or Linux operating system (32-bit or 64-bit)
Korn shell
A standard FORTRAN 77 or FORTRAN 90 Compiler
A C compiler
make utilities
perl5, lex, yacc
gunzip and tar
about 400 Mbytes of disk space
External libraries are required to run some parts of AAPP (detailed
more fully in Chapter 3):
The IASI local processing software, OPS-LRS, is delivered separately
from the main AAPP, and its installation is described in a separate
document (see RD09). For information on OPS-LRS releases, please see
the AAPP
web page.
1.3. Structure of the Document
The document is organized in four sections, including this
introduction:
section 2 outlines the delivered items: code, documents
and test data;
section 3 describes the installation procedure;
section 4 outlines the testing of the installed AAPP with the
provided test data;
